Harore - Fungi

Since Easter there has been an explosion of harore everywhere I turn. Brilliant orange ones, little transparent ones, and peculiar puff ball potatoe looking numbers. Of these latter ones, I have discovered that some explode into really off the planet smelly but rather beautiful 'baskets', hence their name "The basket fungus" or Ileodictyon. I told a few people about them, and one story that has an air of familiarity is that these fungi are the tiko of patuparaerehe. They certainly smell bad but also have an eerie allure.

The season is about the come to and end and I'm now really looking forward to truffle hunting and discovering blue fungi in 2008.

Live from Tokomaru Bay :)
The only fungi I have come across have been fresh field mushrooms, and boy they are so delicious when plucked early in the morning and chucked on a pan with garlic ... mushrooms have never tasted so sweet!
